BCB celebrates the Brain Awareness Week
During March 16th-22nd, the BCB Lab participated in the Brain Awareness Week, engaging in activities across high schools in Barcelona to spread our work and encourage interest in neuroscience. Hernando M. Vergara went to the Escola Institut Mestre Morera to talk about neural code and neural prostheses, followed by a demonstration with Backyard Brains human-to-human gadgets.
While Javier Rodríguez visited the Escola Suïssa de Barcelona, Jaime de la Rocha and Pablo Estévez visited the Institut Escola Els 30 Passos. All three talked about the economy of attention and perceptual and cognitive biases: what they are, how they shape our perception of reality and agency, and how they can be exploited by others. This was followed by (successful!) experimental demonstrations of these biases, which were possible thanks to the website app developed by Javi.
These activities were part of the Brain Awareness Week 2026, the global campaign that aims to foster public enthusiasm and support for brain science. We hope we were able to awaken Els 30 Passos students' curiosity and, who knows? Maybe even a professional calling…
