Christian Geis studied medicine in Würzburg, Basel and London. After his internship in Neurology, he was appointed as Professor for Neurology and Neuroscience at the Department of Neurology at Jena University Hospital in 2012. He continued parallel clinical work and neuroscience research on immune mechanisms in the central nervous system. In 2019 he received an endowed Chair for Neurology and Neuroscience from the Hermann and Lilly Schilling foundation. In 2023 he was appointed as Chair and Director of the Department of Neurology at Jena University Hospital. His research focus is translational neuroimmunology with methodical focus on animal models, therapeutic developments, electrophysiology, and super-resolution imaging. He is heading projects on encephalopathy after systemic inflammation and coordinates national projects on antibody-mediated disorders of the central nervous system.
