Patricia Gassó
Dr. Gassó, who graduated in Health Biology, is a Professor of Pharmacology in the Department of Basic Clinical Practice at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona. She is an accredited R3A researcher at IDIBAPS in the Schizophrenia Group, a member of the G04 group of CIBERSAM, and part of the consolidated research group Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacogenetics (SGR00672).
Her research focuses on the molecular basis of the pathophysiology of schizophrenia and other mental disorders, as well as the pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics of psychotropic drugs. She has published around 100 peer-reviewed articles and has participated in more than 40 competitive research projects. In the last years, together with psychiatrist Dr. Eduard Parellada, director of the Schizophrenia Unit at Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, Dr. Gassó has been leading a research line mainly supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science (PI24/00929; PI21/00552; PI18/1005). This line of research involves convergent and translational studies using cellular, animal, and human models to investigate the pathophysiological mechanisms and potential new therapeutic targets of schizophrenia, with a particular focus on glutamatergic dysregulation and apoptotic processes..
