Multidisciplinary Workshop on Autoimmune Encephalitis with the families

Last October 31st, the IDIBAPS intramural multidisciplinary programme “Synaptic Autoimmunity in Neurology, Psychiatry and Cognitive Neuroscience”, with the support of the La Caixa Research Institute and the La Caixa Foundation, organized a meeting with patients’ families entitled “Multidisciplinary Workshop on Autoimmune Encephalitis: Patients, Research, and the Future”.

During the meeting, researchers from IDIBAPS and collaborating institutions presented to the families both the clinical and preclinical research being carried out within the programme to better understand this family of diseases, including their pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment. From the BCB, Albert and Jaime presented the work performed in the lab investigating working memory deficits in both anti-NMDAR encephalitis patients and mouse models of NMDAR hypofunction.

It was a very successful event (thanks to Laia Prades for the tremendous work organizing everything!), where families had the opportunity not only to meet Dr. Dalmau and other physicians caring for patients, but also to gain a broader perspective on how basic researchers like us are contributing to the understanding of autoimmune synaptopathies.
